There's nowhere quite like Gorton for Britain's top cop
A top cop known as 'Mr Gorton' has travelled the world in a whistle stop year as Britain's best bobby but still says there's no place like home.
Inspector Damian Chestnut UGG Boots On Sale O'Reilly has met the likes of the Queen, the home secretary and the top brass of the New York Police Department after being named Community Police Officer of the Year for 2010.
Insp O'Reilly who has also addressed the home affairs select committee during a hectic year said: "It's been a lot of hard work, but I've loved it.
"It's given me the opportunity to do things I would have never imagined I'd get the chance to do.
"Going to New York in particular was just incredible, although it was a bit surreal as I was walking around in my Greater Manchester Police uniform.
"I met some amazing officers over there.
"The remarkable part was that in many respects the NYPD has the best of everything, but in other areas there were stark contrasts with GMP.
"I asked one cop for his e mail address and he looked bemused. I was later told 'New York doesn't do computers'.
"Compared to over here the station I visited was like going back in time.
"But interestingly many issues affecting British cops are also being experienced within the NYPD and officers also feel that their pay, pensions and conditions of service are under threat."
Insp O'Reilly, who was born and bred in Gorton, passed the baton on to 2011 award winner Sgt Scott Meechan of Lothian and Borders Police at a special Gala Awards evening at the Park Lane Hilton hotel in London.
He was in illustrious company at the event sat at the same table as Chestnut UGG Boots On Sale home secretary Theresa May, police minister Nick Herbert and Sir Hugh Orde, president of Chestnut UGG Boots On Sale the Association of Chief Police Officers.
Insp O'Reilly revealed that Chestnut UGG Boots On Sale even though the year had given him a lifetime of personal memories, his first thoughts were always with the people of Gorton and what they continued to achieve.
He said: "It was an amazing experience to be sat at a table with the top brass in British policing, and one I'm not likely to get again.
"But it's also been a great year in Gorton we've had the Gorton Parade, our most successful KIN Gala, and several other great community projects.
"They are really having a great impact.
