India cricket captain Virat Kohli has thrown his weight behind Mahendra Singh Dhoni, offering him unflinching support amidst a growing chorus for his retirement from international cricket. Kohli made it very clear that his predecessor is an integral part of the team as he gave a cold shoulder to those calling for his retirement. "He is striking the ball beautifully, you don't need to tell him anything in terms of how to play a Obrazek situation, how to build an innings," Kohli said during the post-match press conference after India won the ODI series against the West Indies 3-1 on Friday.
While he played a 78-run knock in the third one-dayer, Dhoni struggled in the 5th match, scoring 54 off 114 balls, an aberration in a career marked by explosive batting.
Kohli sought to defend the man he replaced, one by one, in all formats.
When a journalist said that Dhoni was not his usual self at one of the nets, Kohli responded, "You have to figure out what kind of wickets you are playing on as well. I was trying to hit the spinners a couple of days in practice and I couldn't because the wickets were not that great to play strokes, the wicket in the centre was much better.
A confident India will seek to extend their unbeaten run to five matches and secure a semi-final spot when they take on South Africa in the ICC Women's World Cup on Saturday. India are on a rampaging run having beaten England, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka http://www.official76erstore.com/ convincingly to be second in the standings behind Australia. South Africa, on the other hand, are fifth with two wins and a loss from four games with one ending in a washout.
Not only because of the good cricket they have been playing in the tournament, India will also take heart from their recent success against South Africa, whom they beat in the final of a Quadrangular series in May.
"We are quite confident for the game against South Africa because in the last four or five games we have played against them we have done well," said Veda Krishnamurthy on eve of the game.
"We are aware of their team, we know what combinations and players are there, so we can play according to our strengths. We played them a couple of months back so we know their strengths and weaknesses.
"We are more compact than them, because individually, South Africa are very good, but when it comes to collective Allen Iverson Youth Jersey performance, they really depend on their main players to do well," she added.
India were able to defend 232 in their previous game Sri Lanka although they looked like posting a bigger total after the launch pad provided by Deepti Sharma (78) and skipper Mithali Raj (53).
With 206 runs at 68.66, stylish opener Smriti Mandhana remains India's leading run getter despite failures in the last two games.
Raj has led from the front, scoring 178 runs in four games, which includes two half centuries.
The spin trio of Ekta Bisht, Poonam Yadav and Deepti Sharma have been the backbone of India's bowling, sharing 19 wickets amongst them.
They face South Africa, who are looking to bounce back from the England loss after the hosts amassed the fifth highest score in World Cup history to win by 68 runs.
But captain Dane van Niekerk believes her bowlers can reproduce the team's stunning form http://www.officiallakersshoponline.com/Carlos_Boozer_Jersey that saw them bowl the West Indies out for 48 at the same venue.
She said: "Our bowlers don't like getting hit like that, I am sure they will come back firing even stronger so I am excited to see what they will do in the next few days and how they are going to go about their work.
"It doesn't mean their skills have gone away in just one game, and it doesn't mean the West Indies game was a fluke. We are a good bowling side, every team in the world has had days like this.
"India are a brilliant batting side, they have a lot of spinners and they are on a high. They are playing really good cricket at the moment and they are the ones to beat."
"You can't really judge a guy's batting form at practice because you don't know what kind of wickets you are going to get."
Kohli used a bit of the game's nuances to drive home his point.
"If the bounce is not ideal then obviously you have to keep defending the ball and keep rotating strike. I think it was only in the last game he couldn't rotate the strike and before that he got a brilliant 70 or 80 odd not out."
The current captain recalled the former captain's successful outing against Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy.
"In the Champions Trophy against Sri Lanka he played a brilliant Authentic Corey Brewer Youth Jersey knock, in the first game as well he played a brilliant knock here when it wasn't rained out."
He further said, "I think we get too impatient by just one game, one knock. That can happen to anyone, any batsman can struggle and any batsman can get stuck on the crease, it happens to everyone even if you are in top form it can happen to you so.
"I don't think there are any issues because you see the knocks around, he is striking the ball beautifully and the strike rate is close to 100, if not over 100. So, not bothered by anything at all," Kohli concluded.
