Walkthru: Cincinnati Bengals facing longest odds under Andy

The Walkthru is a daily look at the http://www.officialchargesshop.com/shop-by-players-dan-fouts-jersey-c-1_13.html Bengals, your questions and whatever else spills from the brains of beat writers Paul Dehner Jr. and Jim Owczarski. You can follow them on Twitter (@pauldehnerjr, @JimOwczarski), Instagram (@enqbengals) as well as Enquirer Sports on Facebook.
Normally I’ll drop the odds of the game and other random betting nuggets into the Degenerate Corner section down the Walkthru. But after running through a few interesting trends in researching today’s line, it feels like it’s time to shine a light on the degenerates. Typically this happens when walking out of a casino blinded by the rising sun at 7:30 a.m., but today’s it’s in via the written word.
The Bengals are currently a nine-point underdog in Lambeau Field with an over/under of 44 ½. So, Bengals to win straight up is going +325.
As you might imagine, in the regular season since Andy Dalton and A.J. Green joined the team they haven’t faced large spreads like this one http://www.officialvikingssale.com/shop-by-players-rhett-ellison-jersey-c-2_30.html often. In fact, this is the largest Bengals spread of the Dalton-Green Era (DGE).
The previous top six were:
10-16-2016 at New England: 7.5 (L 35-17)
11-16-2014 at New Orleans: 7.0 (W 27-10)
9-10-2012 at Baltimore: 7.0 (L 44-13)
12-4-2011 at Pittsburgh: 7.0 (L 35-7)
11-20-2011 at Baltimore: 7.0 (L 31-24)
9-11-2011 at Cleveland: 7.0 (W 27-17)
Not bad to pull off two wins in the six games with those point spreads and the team covered half the time. People may forget now how down the public was on the Bengals for Dalton’s debut and how high the public was on the Browns at that point, but it proved to be one of the QBs most impressive victories in his first day on the job (and he didn’t finish the game, Bruce Gradkowski did).
Dating back beyond the DGE you can find the largest point spreads of the Marvin Lewis Era (MLE). Many came during the dreadful 2008 campaign with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB in place of Carson Palmer. In fact, the three largest spreads of the MLE came in ’08.
10-5-08 at Dallas: 16.0 (L 31-22)
12-7-08 at Indianapolis: 13.5 (L 35-3)
9-21-08 at NYG: 13.0 (L 26-23 OT)
One more MLE trend before we Quinton Dial Womens Jersey move on. Twelve times the Bengals have been a dog of at least nine points. They are 1-10-1 in those games. They won at Baltimore in October of 2009 while nine-point underdogs, 17-14. They did cover 7 of the 12 times.
All spreads and results came via pro-football-reference.com.
